Local Trust

Local Trust is a place-based funder supporting communities to transform and improve their lives and the places in which they live. As their Big Local programme comes to an end, Local Trust is keen to capture and distill learning from the 150 areas and communities involved.

I’ve been working with Local Trust, their partners and their graphic agency to produce case studies, action plans and toolkits that distil learnings from their Big Local Areas and partners so other community groups can run their organisations with impact.

My team commissioned Charlotte to produce a community-facing toolkit as well as a supporting blog and social copy. She very quickly understood the brief and target audience and worked really quickly to transform the copy we provided into a warm and engaging piece of communications. She also effectively managed our design agency to produce the toolkit, which saved us lots of time. I’d highly recommend Charlotte!

🔎 HOW CAN YOUR COMMUNITY PROJECT TACKLE LONELINESS?
Most of us will experience loneliness at some point in our lives. Around half (45%) of adults in England say they feel lonely occasionally, sometimes or often, with 1 in 20 saying they feel lonely ‘often or always’. Working with Local Trust, I condensed a longer academic report about loneliness into this shorter more accessible handbook, with examples of how Big Local areas have tackled loneliness in their communities.

🔎 HOW DO YOU DESIGN A COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAMME?
Sometimes, community groups actually have money to give away! And when it does happen, it can be a bit of a minefield to fund fairly. I worked with Local Trust and their design agency to create this useful toolkit for anyone looking to award community grants, based on the experience of Big Local Areas and IPPR research.

🔎 HOW CAN YOU COMMISSION PROFESSIONALS TO HELP WITH YOUR PROJECT?
Commissioning can be a real mystery but working with Take a Part and Local Trust, I broke it down into accessible steps and explained the jargon.

🔎 WHAT STEPS DO YOU NEED TO TAKE TO RETROFIT YOUR COMMUNITY BUILDING?
Community buildings are often draughty spaces that need quite a lot of maintenance. In this practical action plan, I worked with the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Local Trust to set out the steps to audit a building and understand its maintenance needs, ways to make it more energy efficient and where to find qualified suppliers and experts.
